You would think that video games companies make enough money by selling their games to the world and reaping the satisfaction that comes from creating a truly unique experience. However games these days are starting to develop cinematic stories with in-depth graphics that make you wonder whether the special effects teams of Hollywood were hired. So it only seems natural now that once you make a game, its becomes popular, then the next thing is to make a movie. With movies like The book of Eli looking like Fallout, and Prince of Persia, its no wonder Bioshock are working on a movie and also Starcraft would love to have a movie if it gets the right partners. But is it milking a game too much to turn it into a movie? Sometimes the movies are lack luster and don't do justice to a game. Its a bit like making a movie based on a book, the book is always going to be better because our imaginations and interaction with the story is always more interesting. So do you think think making movies based on games are a good idea? Are there any games you would love to see a movie based on?

As of May Blizzard has been earning about $100 Million per month from game sales and subscription sales for its ever popular World of Warcraft game. On August 11, Blizzard scored a major victory in a copyright infringement lawsuit against Alyson Reeves, operator of the now defunct PC game site Scapegaming. Blizzard filed the suit in October 2009 after discovering that the PC gaming site was making a profit by operating a private World of Warcraft server. The only legitimate WOW servers are owned and operated by Blizzard, which contended that Scapegaming's material gains were ill-gotten.
Judge Margaret M. Morrow of the California Central District Court agreed with Blizzard and levied a hefty penalty on Scapegaming. The site's owner, Alyson Reeves, must pay blizzard $3,052,339 in disgorged profits, $85,478,600 in statutory damages, and $63,600 in attorney fees. Reeves will also have to pay interest on the outstanding balance of the fines until they are paid in full.
The WOW legal decision comes in between the publisher's two major releases of the year. Three weeks ago, the company released Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, which became the fastest-selling strategy game of all time by shifting 1.5 million units in 18 hours. Later this year, it will ship the third expansion for World of Warcraft, Cataclysm. [source]
On another note:
MC Hammer and his parachute pants will never go out of style. Combining his hit song “U Can’t Touch This” with Sonic & Knuckles’ Flying Battery Zone takes all that is good and holy of the 90s and combines it into a 4 minute video for easy consumption.

Valve has revealed at Gamescom that Portal 2 will be released on February 9, 2011. In addition, they said that the kindly British robot Wheatley, who has been featured in trailers for the game, will be voiced by Stephen Merchant. You may know him best as a writer for both the British and U.S. versions of The Office (as well as an actor in the former). But we all know about Valve time so can we really expect to see it released on this date?[source]

Thats right the ever popular game Torchlight will be getting a sequel: Torchlight II. With the sequel comes a much better game by the creators Runic Games. It addresses the major complaints that most people had with the first Torchlight, bosses will be better tuned, and classes will be more distinct and have more fun unique abilities.... overall it will be a better Torchlight with online multiplayer.
Most importantly, online session-based multiplayer is in. This isn't the long talked-about Torchlight MMO -- that will likely come after Torchlight II, and while Runic isn't actively working on the MMO at the moment it does expect that a lot of the work on this project will carry over. Players will again have access to powerful editing tools, and you'll be able to play Torchlight II mods multiplayer so long as everyone has the same mods active.
Torchlight II will have a matchmaking service of some kind beyond a game browser, but Runic isn't sure yet what exact form it will take. The developer will not be hosting mods, but Runic minister of culture Wonder Russell did express her deep appreciation of all the work done by the Torchlight community in mod creation and distribution, particularly the TorchLeech folks. (And if you're a Torchlight player who hasn't grabbed TorchLeech yet and explored the wonderful world of mods, shame on you! There's so much awesomeness out there.) [source]
